Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Telemetry experience Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a stepdown unit. The nurse will care for adult patients, occasionally pediatrics aged 15 and older. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 for both day and night shifts. Shifts will be from 0630 to 1830 and 1830 to 0630. The unit has a total of 55 beds. Common patient diagnoses include CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and general weakness. PCA pumps for pain management, cardizem, and insulin are among the common drips and medications used. Support staff includes charge nurses, educators, care managers, social workers, dieticians, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. The unit is a close-knit group, and cooperation among team members is encouraged. Flexibility to float to medical-surgical areas may be required based on patient care needs. Key focuses include hourly rounding and responsiveness to improve the patient experience. Artificial nails are prohibited, and compliance with the fingernail policy is mandatory. There is an exam during orientation that must be passed to continue in the role. Technical skills include familiarity with EPIC electronic medical records and Alaris IV pumps. Mechanical lifts are available in every other room on the unit. Successful candidates will be adept at managing daily tasks and supporting the overall operation of the unit.
